AIIB and Amundi publish 1st report on implementation of the Climate Change Investment Framework to drive Asia’s Green recovery and transition.
The AIIB-Amundi Climate Change Investment Framework, jointly defined by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and Amundi, was launched in September 2020. This new benchmark investor tool provides, for the first time, a holistic issuer-level assessment of both climate change risks and opportunities in line with the three objectives of the Paris Agreement, Mitigation, Adaptation, and Contribution to the Transition.
Endorsed by the Climate Bonds Initiative, a major international certifier and industry thought leader in the green and climate bond market, the AIIB-Amundi Climate Change Investment Framework translates the three Paris Agreement key objectives into fundamental metrics to equip investors with a new tool to assess the level of issuers alignment with climate change mitigation, adaptation and low-carbon transition objectives.
To encourage development of climate bond markets, an active Asia climate bond fixed income strategy was developed in January 2021. The strategy seeks to identify, analyze and select tomorrow’s Climate Champions using the framework.
The first Annual Impact Report for the strategy for 2021 is now available. The report provides an overview of the strategy as well as mitigation, adaptation and transition scores. The report also reveals the level of Greenhouse Gas Emissions avoided, following the industry standard for green bond issuers. As of the end of 2021, the strategy recorded a total of 79,628 tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) emissions avoided. This was higher than the target of avoiding 18,000 gross tCO2e emissions. For perspective, this is equivalent to 702,638 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle.
