From September 22nd to 25th, Elodie Laugel, Chief Responsible Investment Officer, Timothée Jaulin, Head of Responsible Investment Development & Advocacy, Aaron McDougall, Head of Climate Research, and Annie Chor Joyce, Head of Responsible Investing and Partnerships for the Americas, represented Amundi at the New York Climate Week (NYCW).
This year's edition counted over 1,000 side events, compared to around 600 last year.
The Amundi delegation contributed to various high-level panel discussions organized by important stakeholders such as Bank of America, BCG, Bloomberg, the World Economic Forum, MSCI, and the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. They discussed on topics ranging from the importance of climate finance, scaling up blended finance solutions in emerging markets and developing economies, and the Just transition.
Key takeaways
- Physical and transition risks are increasing globally due to a delayed and disordered climate transition, threatening portfolio resilience.
- Global climate mitigation investment needs are projected to reach $5 trillion annually by 2030, with $2 trillion needed in emerging markets (EMs).
- Food systems account for about one-third of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions.
- The 1.5°C scenario is increasingly seen as unattainable, raising uncertainty for long-term investment strategies.
- Blended finance is emerging as a critical tool, with annual volumes growing from $11.5 billion in 2020 to $18.3 billion in 2024, and median deal sizes increasing from $38 million to $65 million1.
- Innovative instruments—such as debt conversions, governance-linked bonds, and outcome bonds—are helping scale private investments in emerging markets.
- Regenerative agriculture has the potential to offer attractive real asset returns, low correlation to public markets, and resilience in times of crisis. With aligned capital and credible measurement, regenerative food systems are evolving from pilot projects to scalable investment portfolios.
